Taboo Five

September 19, 2009

Playing Taboo and The Friday Five

  1. Who’s making a positive difference in your life?
Taboo words: friends, family, husband/wife/spouse, boyfriend/girlfriend.
  2. Where would you like to be right now?
Taboo words: home, bed, anywhere but here.
  3. What’s the first thing you’d do with a $5,000 (or your local equivalent) gift?
Taboo words: save, debt, vacation, payments, invest.
  4. What super-power would you really like to have?
Taboo words: invisibility, x-ray vision, flying, strength, transform.
  5. What’s your favorite sound?
Taboo words: laughter, music, ocean, wind, ____’s voice

1. KT, duh! She makes me see things from within. She asks the tough questions.

2. I would like to be well, feeling great. Probably in a different country.

3. Write an e-check to Visa. Or, wait..no! Get a deck.  (is it Freudian that I typed an ‘i’ at first?)

4. Being in the air like the birds. I think that would be amazing.

5. When you’re in the car and it’s raining and you turn off the car and just hear the rain on the windshied and roof.

Friday Five–2009 First Quarter

March 20, 2009

These are actually from last week, but whatever….

Next week marks the end of the first quarter of 2009, so how about a little report card?

  1. Would you say 2009 so far is meeting expectation, exceeding expectations, or failing to meet expectations?
  2. What letter grade would you give yourself for your performance at work or school?
  3. On a scale from 1 to 10, how happy have you been with the weather so far in 2009?
  4. Which of the Motion Picture Association of America’s film ratings would you give your social life so far in 2009?
  5. 2009’s parents are on the phone and want to know how 2009 can improve its performance. What have been 2009’s areas of strength and what are its areas for growth in the second quarter?

1. So far, I’ve really enjoyed 2009. I had a feeling it would be a good year, and so far I’m very happy with it. I can’t believe it’s already mid-March. It seems like it was only a month ago that Car and I drove around looking for that damn party (with the wrong f*cking address!!).  I’ve sat outside a lot, I’ve sorta worked on my house, I’ve really worked on the one Agreement–being impeccable with your word, which sometimes means saying less than usual.

2. My own performance? Maybe a low to mid B. Although I’ve enjoyed this year a lot, I’ve been super lazy. I come home and sit and watch TV. Yeah, I cook and knit (I know!! Is it the 1950’s?!). And I go to the gym. But in some ways, I don’t know if I’ve given my ALL. Maybe I should work on that Agreement–Always Do Your Best.

3. It’s hard to answer about the weather when this week has been absolutely perfect. And I’ve been out in the weather every single day this week. And last week’s weather was super crappy. Like nasty, yucky, cold. I think on a whole, I’d give the weather an 8.

4. Social Life? I’d say PG-13. PG is a bit too tame for my wild antics, but I have drank a lot and even smoked a few cigarettes (I KNOW!). Definitely NOT an R-rating, so PG-13 seems most fitting, I guess.

5. Hi, Mr. and Mrs. 2009! 2009 is very positive, and always sees the positive in things. I think 2009 has been full of procrastination and she should work a bit harder on getting stuff done.

Yes, I avoided bail outs and new leadership and the failing economy and all that gross stuff. We still have people at war, and people are famous for having litters. I didn’t mention those things. I’m pretty selfish and only wanted to talk about me!  Like I told KT last night, I really feel like I’m on the brink of something good. I don’t know if it’ll happen next week or two years from now, but it will happen soon.

Friday Five, on Saturday

February 15, 2009

Been a while. Thought I’d play again:

  1. This past week, were you more predator or prey?
  2. Which Beatles song title could best be the title of your week? Click here for complete list of Beatles songs!
  3. “Roses are red / Violets are blue / ___________ / __________.” How would you complete this poem so that it described this past week?
  4. How many pieces of unopened mail are sitting wherever you put your unopened mail?
  5. What was the best meal of the past seven days?

1. Hmm.. I don’t really feel like I’ve been either. Maybe a predator because I worked out more this week than other weeks.  … Although nothing today, which should have been easy.

2. All You Need is Love

3. Roses are red

Violets are blue

I got surprise flowers

That made me smile for hours

4. There is no unopened mail by where I keep unopened mail. I try to sort that out right away. I open it, throw it out if it’s junk. If it’s a bill, I write the due date on the front and stick it in my “bills to pay and other crap” filing system.  If it’s a personal letter, I really want to open it right away! Those are few and far between!

5. Best meal of past 7 days. Let me think on that…I guess it would have been the team potluck we had at school. Minestrone, tamales (made with wild boar), fruits (mine!), home-made truffles, home-made guacamole, dips and sauces and delioucnesses all around. It was one of the best pot-lucks (at school) that we’ve done.  Good variety, good food.

When did you last…

October 25, 2008

When did you last…
1. scrounge for change (couch, ashtray, ect) to make a purchase?
2. visit a dentist?
3. make a needed change to your life?
4. decide on a complete menu well in advance of the evening meal?
5. spend part of the day (other than daily hygiene) totally/mostly naked?

1. I think it was for parking as I circled the block. Damn $7 parking!

2. Dentist? Not all that long ago, really. And an endontist? Like a month ago. I’m pretty good about seeing the dentist twice a year.

3. Good question … I’m still working on it, I think.

4. I went to Cru the other night and perused the menu before going. Just that day. If I’m going to a new restaurant, I try to look at the menu so my food issues are slightly at bay.

5. There was a Saturday not that long ago that I was in my pj’s from the time I got up (around 8:00) until 5:00 p.m. And that was only because I had to go somewhere.

Fri(satur)day Five

October 5, 2008
  1. Under what conditions are you most likely to cause injury to yourself?
  2. What named mountain is nearest where you are right now?
  3. When did you last eat something with coconut in it?
  4. Who’s getting on your nerves?
  5. Somewhere, somebody is asking him- or herself whatever happened to you. Who is it?

1. Oh, geez…walking? Chewing gum? No, really the chewing gum thing. I have a cross, underbite and sometimes bite me lip while chewing.

2. Named mountain? I have no idea…how sad is that? No, really, I don’t know.

3. I may have eaten a 7-layer bar recently. I think those have coconut. Otherwise, I don’t intentionally eat the stuff.

4. I’m watching the VP Debate right now. Sarah is annoying me right now. Quit with the winking!

5. Wow. I hope it’s Caron. I think about her all the time.

Flavors

September 12, 2008

This is from Friday5.org… I want to write something, so I went to the archives. This seems to fit.

  1. What’s too spicy for your tastes?
  2. What’s too sweet for your tastes?
  3. What’s too salty for your tastes?
  4. What’s too bitter for your tastes?
  5. What’s too sour for your tastes?

1. I don’t like Mexican spice as much as Asian spice. I’d rather burn my face off on wasabi or Sriracha or Tom Kha soup. I do love salsa. Love, love it. But if it’s too spicy, I don’t like it.  Like habanero and stuff? That doesn’t interest me.

2. I know there are things that are too sweet for me. Of course right now I can’t think of anything. Cadbury eggs are pretty damn sweet, but I do eat those. Very carefully.  Coconut stuff, like coconut sno cones are too sweet. Same with caramel.

3. Oh, I love salt. This is a hard one to answer, too.

4. Finally one I don’t love. I don’t love bitter. The medicine I’ve been swishing around my mouth is bitter if you rinse or drink too soon. It’s awful.

5. Those War Heads candy are sour. But sour in a fun way.  I love the sour in some Thai foood.  Sour milk? That’s no good.  I can’t think of sour foods too much now.

Obviously I want to write something, but this crap is not inspiring me much.

My apologies for the boring blog.

Today’s Cinco

August 16, 2008
  1. What did you last replace batteries for?
  2. What have you thrown away that you probably could have had repaired?
  3. Among items in your line of sight right now, what should probably be put in the trash?
  4. When did you last use disposable cutlery while dining in your house?
  5. Whose actions cause you to waste time you otherwise wouldn’t waste?

1. I use rechargable as much as possible. Most of the things in my house are now on rechargable batteries. I think the last thing was for a remote, probably the tuner.

2. I’m sure there’s something out there I could have had repaired. Nothing that I can think of right now, though.

3. I’ve got a lot of books, magazines and cookbooks in my line of sight. I LOVE cookbooks and I like to keep books so I’m sure some of those magazines can go in the trash–but not just yet. I’m not quite done with them yet.

4. I NEVER use disposable cutlery in my own house. I’ve gone for take-out and if they give me disposable stuff, I keep it to take to work or have around. In my own house, I much prefer the “silver.”

5. Whose actions cause me to waste time I wouldn’t otherwise waste? That’s a weird question. … There was a woman I worked with last year who talked and talked and talked, often about nothing that was of relevance to me. That’d be one.  Strangers–people in line who take too much time, people in the store who take up space? I don’t know… this is an odd question.

Let Me Hear Your Body Talk

August 8, 2008

Here we go… Friday Five on Friday

And let me just say I’m going easy. I’ve started a couple others, but they’ve been too mind-swallowing to do and besides, it’s still summer.

1. What does your body tell you when you get out of bed in the morning?
2. How well do you treat your body? Do you feed and exercise it well? Go for regular check-ups?
3. What part of your body feels strongest?
4. Which is the weakest?
5. If you had to live without the use of one body part for the rest of your life, which would it be? Why?

1. What does my body tell me? Depends… If it’s a “sleep-in” day, my eyes wonder why it’s so bright. Usually my bladder is screaming loud enough to make me get up before I can think too much about it. My waking mind tries to recapture the dreams I may have had; it tries to repeat the dream so it’s more in my conscious mind so I can look up all the symbols later.

2. I’m fairy good to my body. I don’t smoke. I drink, but not to excess that much. (But sometimes, yes, to excess). I don’t use Q-Tips that much because they can puncture your ear drum.  When working, I exercise 2 or more times a week, usually a cardio class. I get my annual check up once a year (duh, annual, once a year). I’ve never done a mammogram, but should. I see the dentist twice a year (unfortunately, sometimes more). I recently got moles checked; I recently had my eyes checked. I try to eat at least partially healthily most of the time.

3. Body part that feels the strongest? I have big biceps for who and what I am. If we’re talking only physically, I’d say that. Not sure how much I can actually do with them, though.

4. My right ankle is the weakest. It’s the one I had surgery on. It’s weak at times and it just looks weird. Sometimes it goes out on me.  I don’t want to hate any part of my body, but I really dislike it.

5. I always hate this question. I see that it gets easier to live w/o an arm. But I’m just getting into knitting again so much that I don’t want to have to give that up.  Maybe a foot, if I could still do exercises besides running or walking.  Maybe one eye, so I’d have a lazy eye and freak the kids out. I could tell them that i’m a bruja and that I can put spells on them if they’re not quiet.

Music to my ears!

August 5, 2008

The Not-Friday Five

Maybe somewhere along the way sometimes I can maybe do the Friday Five. Consider this the Tuesday Five.  This is from fiveonfridays.com. And I’m starting easy. I started another one, but it was hard to do right now. Too much thinking…

Feel free to join in if you want!

1. How often do you listen to music?

2. Do you ever listen to the radio? What is your favorite station?

3. How do you find new songs, albums, or artists to listen to?

4. When was the last time you bought a CD? A digital music file?

5. Do you think any of the technologies and distribution methods mentioned above will still be around in ten years? Why or why not?

1. I listen to music at least once a day. Always in the shower, often when I drive. If I’ve got stuff to think about, I’ll listen to some sort of talk radio–those voices can drown out my own!

2.  I’m almost embarassed to admit I listen to 94.7 in Austin. Mainly for the morning show. Hate to admit that, too. Not a big fan of the other ones around here. Good dose of sorta news, what’s going on around Austin, enough fake news (celebrity, etc) to get through lunch converstaions.  I also admit to listening to Dr. Laura when I can. She’s like a train wreck. Can’t help but listen sometimes. And, yes, even NPR too.

3. Find suggestions from friends, look to see what they’re listening to on blogs, listen to references that people make, find songs on soundtracks from movies and TV.

4. Last time I bought a CD? Hmm…can’t even remember. I remember buying the new Jack Johnson the day it came out, but I don’t remember if there was something since then or not. I bought all 3 seasons of Weeds soundtracks on iTunes. I just synced my podcasts, too. But those aren’t music.

5. I kinda wonder if CDs could be on their way out. I remember when TAPES came out, or were more popular. And now cool were they that they were so much more clear than a record, they didn’t skip and so on. Now those are almost obsolte. I don’t know about the digital stuff, but I wonder if CDs will become like tapes.
